HOW TO
Build a Cucumber Trellis
It’s super easy to build a cucumber trellis on top of your raised bed garden. Besides cucumbers, you can use this for many other vining vegetables like zucchini and yellow squash. And the best news: you can grab everything you need at your local Home Depot.
The trellis we are building today is 32” x 49.5”. You can use a variety of different materials to build a cucumber trellis. If using wood, we recommend all-natural and untreated wood.
Before getting started, make sure you have everything you need. Watch the video for a tutorial, review the supply list and follow the step-by-step instructions!
The Steps
STEP 1
Let’s start with the frame! Use 2, 3” screws per joint. Connect the 32” boards to the ends of the 49.5” boards. Then place the 29” piece in the middle for extra support.
STEP 2
Now attach the legs to the frame. Measure 3” from the end of the 32” side of the frame and pilot a hole with a ⅜” drill bit.
STEP 3
On the 36” legs, measure 1” from the end and pilot a hole with the ⅜” drill bit.
STEP 4
Now line up the two holes, pairing each leg hole to a side of the frame hole. Placing a carriage bolt in the leg, hammer it to connect the legs to each side of the frame. Once in place, add a washer and nut to secure them to the frame.
STEP 5
Last step! Attach the chicken wire to the frame with staples every couple of inches around the whole frame.
STEP 6
Now your trellis is ready for your vining veggies! After planting your raised bed, place your trellis where your vining veggies can climb it.
